Publication Ethics
NUSACIVICA: Journal of Society and Culture is committed to promoting ethical, interdisciplinary, and high-quality scholarship in the fields of social sciences, cultural studies, language, communication, humanities, citizenship, community development, and related disciplines. The journal upholds academic integrity, intellectual honesty, ethical responsibility, inclusivity, and respect for human dignity as fundamental principles in the dissemination of knowledge.
This publication ethics statement serves as a guideline for all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher. The journal is committed to preventing publication malpractice, plagiarism, data manipulation, and all forms of unethical academic conduct. The ethical standards of NUSACIVICA are adapted from the principles and Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Duties of Authors
Authors are required to submit original manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration by another journal. Simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to multiple journals constitutes unethical publishing behavior.
Authors must present research findings honestly, accurately, and transparently. Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, citation manipulation, or inappropriate data modification are strictly prohibited. All sources and references used in the manuscript must be properly acknowledged.
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant scholarly contributions to the conception, research, writing, and revision of the manuscript. All co-authors must approve the final version of the manuscript before submission. Authors are encouraged to review the final proof carefully prior to publication. Requests for withdrawal, correction, or retraction should be communicated promptly to the editorial office before publication.
Authors must disclose any financial support, institutional affiliation, or potential conflict of interest that may influence the interpretation of research findings. Research involving human participants must comply with ethical research standards, including informed consent, confidentiality, privacy protection, and respect for participants' dignity and rights.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Authors must disclose the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation of manuscripts. AI tools may be used only to support language editing, grammar checking, translation assistance, or technical improvement of manuscripts.
AI technologies cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity, originality, and accountability of scholarly work. Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to the journal, including sections generated or assisted by AI tools.
Plagiarism Screening
All manuscripts submitted to NUSACIVICA: Journal of Society and Culture are subject to plagiarism screening using similarity detection software before entering the peer-review process.
Manuscripts containing substantial plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, manipulated citations, or other unethical practices will be rejected immediately. The editorial board reserves the right to take further action in accordance with publication ethics standards if misconduct is identified before or after publication.
Duties of Reviewers
Reviewers play an essential role in assisting editors in making editorial decisions and improving the scholarly quality of manuscripts. NUSACIVICA applies a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed to ensure impartiality and fairness.
Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, clear, and scholarly feedback in a professional manner. Personal criticism toward authors is inappropriate. Review comments should be supported by academic arguments and relevant references where necessary.
Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of all manuscripts and must not use unpublished materials for personal research, publication, or professional advantage.
If reviewers believe they are not qualified to review a manuscript due to limitations in expertise, or if they are unable to complete the review within the allocated time, they should notify the editors promptly.
Reviewers are required to disclose any conflict of interest related to the manuscript, authors, institutions, or funding sources before accepting a review assignment.
Duties of Editors
Editors are responsible for maintaining the academic quality, integrity, and ethical standards of the journal.
The Editor-in-Chief conducts an initial evaluation of submitted manuscripts to determine their relevance to the journal’s scope and scholarly contribution. Section Editors are responsible for coordinating the peer-review process and selecting qualified reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript.
Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on the basis of academic merit, originality, clarity, methodological rigor, relevance, and contribution to the fields of social sciences, cultural studies, language, communication, humanities, citizenship studies, community development, and related disciplines, without discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, gender, nationality, institutional affiliation, disability, or political perspective.
Editors must ensure a fair, objective, and confidential peer-review process. Editorial decisions must be free from conflicts of interest and influenced only by scholarly considerations.
Editors are also responsible for investigating allegations of plagiarism, unethical research conduct, duplicate publication, authorship disputes, data manipulation, or other forms of publication misconduct in accordance with ethical publishing standards and COPE guidelines.
Handling of Publication Misconduct
Allegations of publication misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, citation manipulation, authorship disputes, unethical research practices, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or copyright violations, will be investigated seriously by the editorial board.
The journal may take appropriate actions, including:
- Manuscript rejection;
- Publication of corrections or errata;
- Article retraction;
- Temporary restriction of future submissions;
- Notification to authors’ affiliated institutions;
- Notification to funding agencies or relevant authorities when necessary.
All investigations will be conducted fairly, objectively, transparently, and confidentially following internationally recognized publication ethics standards.

The publisher of NUSACIVICA: Journal of Society and Culture is committed to supporting ethical scholarly publishing and ensuring the sustainability, accessibility, and visibility of academic research.
The publisher supports the editorial team in managing manuscript submission, peer review, editing, publication, correction, and retraction processes in accordance with recognized ethical standards.
